Converted video has no sound — here is why
Re-convert the WebM or MKV to MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio; if the source file has no audio track or uses a codec the player cannot decode, you may still need to check the source or use a compatible player.
Open the Video Converter — free →WebM often carries Opus or Vorbis audio, and MKV can carry Opus, AC-3, DTS, or other codecs. MP4 players expect AAC or MP3 more often. The converter may copy the audio stream unchanged into an MP4 container, so the video plays but the player cannot decode the sound. A player that starts muted is a separate issue; unmute it and check the volume icon before assuming the file is broken.
Check the source file first. Open it in a player such as VLC and use Audio > Audio Track to confirm an audio track exists. If there is no track, no converter can add one.
1. Open the converter and choose the MP4 output option. 2. Upload the WebM or MKV. 3. Open advanced or settings if shown, and set Video codec to H.264 and Audio codec to AAC. 4. If there is a copy audio or keep original codec option, turn it off. 5. Click Convert, then Download. 6. Play the downloaded MP4 in another player and unmute it.
Some source files have no audio track at all, and some players cannot play even AAC without system codecs. Re-converting changes the container and codecs; it cannot recover audio that was never in the file. If the MP4 still has no sound in one player, test it in VLC or a browser before changing the file again.
